In Davidson County, Tennessee, Glencliff Entrepreneurship STEAM Magnet Elementary School received their America’s Entrepreneurial Schools (AES) designation in recognition of their commitment to providing entrepreneurship education to every student in their building in a single year. The National Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education (EntreEd) awarded the school with a banner and designation as an entrepreneurial school for the 2019-2020 school year.
At Glencliff Elementary School, students from K – 4th grades collaborated in projects centered around social and financial entrepreneurship. The entrepreneurial theme helps students to become more equipped to become innovators, leaders, and trendsetters for the future. Glencliff has introduced entrepreneurship into classroom lessons to reach every student.
Students at Glencliff have participated in activities, lessons, and field trips where they have learned about the concepts of entrepreneurship and what an entrepreneur is. Glencliff students have created and operated the Eagles Nest Slushie Sensation, which is a school slushie business.
Glencliff also has a unique learning space known as the Incubation Lab. In the Incubation Lab, students are exposed to an entrepreneurial curriculum from Unchartered Learning and Venture Lab. Projects in the Innovation Lab have included a Shark Tank-style competition where students develop an idea of a product they want to design and create. Students then present their business ideas in front of school stakeholders.
